Mindanao ASEAN Human Rights Network to End Violence Against Children (MAHRNEVAC)

Hello HR advocates, activists and care providers, especially on children in South East Asia.  This group is a by-product of the attempt of the Mindanao Convenors Against Corporal Punishment (MCCoP) in its campaign to end all forms of violence against children. It is part of its commitment to participate in the formation of a HR body, particularly on children, under the auspices of the 10-member ASEAN.  MCCoP is presently composed of seven (7) Mindanao children and youth-focused NGOs, such as: Tambayan Center for the Rights of Children, Kabataan Consortium, Bantay-Bata 163, Family Planning Organization of the Philippines-SOCSARGEN, Gitib-Ozamis, and Katilingban Alang sa Kalambuan-Zamboanga.  This is also the group which convened the Mindanao conferences on the NGO alternative children's report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child on the Philippines' compliance to the UNCRC in 2008.  This internet group hopes to focus more on the issue of Summary Execution (SE) and other violence against of children in Mindanao.  SE in the country became a prominent protection issue of children after Prof. Alston, special repporteur on violence against children of the UN conducted a survey in 2007.
