New Tactics Resources for Educators

learnNew Tactics Resources for Educators is a collection of resources for educators interested in integrating New Tactics ideas and information into the classroom.  These resources include: articles, guides, group activities, exercises, and classroom modules. These resources can be used in many academic disciplines to introduce practical human rights tactics and stories into the classroom. These resources aim to:

  • Assist educators in introducing strategic thinking and tactical innovation to students of human rights, and other disciplines.
  • Share and highlight real-world examples of tactics being used by practitioners around the world to advance human rights efforts.
  • Encourage students to analyze, adapt and innovate new tactics and increase their own "tool box" for their future work.

The goal of this module is to introduce students to the topic of torture through a variety of resources, as well as critical engagement. Students will gain insight into the global scope of torture and identify factors that contribute to the existence of torture.

According to Jean Ziegler, the former UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, the right to food protects “the right of all human beings to live in dignity, free from hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition (http://www.righttofood.org/new/html/WhatRighttofood.html).”  It is a right that is protected by human rights

The goal of this module is to introduce students to the topic of child labor through a variety of resources, as well as critical engagement. Students will gain insight into the global scope of child labor, types of occupations of children, the physical and emotional impacts, and identify factors that contribute the existence of child labor.

The goal of this module is to introduce students to the topic of labor trafficking through a variety of resources, as well as critical engagement. Students will gain insight into the global scope of labor trafficking, how to identify forced labor, and identify factors that contribute to the existence of labor trafficking.

The goal of this module is to introduce students to the topic of sex trafficking through a variety of resources, as well as critical engagement. Students will gain insight into the global scope of sex trafficking, the obstacles facing individuals who have been trafficked, the variety of factors that influence an individuals ability or willingness to access help, and identify factors that contribute to the existence of sex trafficking.

Cross-disciplinary modules for the effective use of New Tactics database in the classroom. This module helps educators to introduce examples of tactics being used around the world to their students. Information on this module:

Tactical Notebooks can be an invaluable teaching resource to understand the connection between tactics and strategy, and provide students with a practical understanding of how human rights work is carried out.

This is a classroom discussion guide designed  to compliment the New Tactics workbook.  By incorporating this workbok in the classroom, students can learn from the practical experiences of others, understand the benefits of strategic and tactical thinking, and develop new skills in analyzing approaches being used to combat human rights abuses around the world.
